BPCL Launches Electric Vehicle Fast Charging Stations in Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu
Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL), a Fortune Global 500 Company and a ‘Maharatna,’ has recently introduced electric vehicle (EV) fast charging stations across 110 fuel stations located along 15 highways in Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. BPCL has set up three corridors with 19 fuel stations in Kerala, six corridors with 33 fuel stations in Karnataka, and 10 corridors with 58 fuel stations in Tamil Nadu.
With ambitious plans to invest approximately Rs 800 crore, BPCL aims to set up 7,000 EV charging stations across India within the next two years. The company claims that it only takes 30 minutes to charge an EV using its 30 KW fast charger, providing a range of up to 125 km. Moreover, the BPCL EV corridor across the three states will ensure that the distance between two fast chargers is less than 100 km.
The EV corridors will connect significant religious and tourist destinations to cities, such as Tirupathi in Andhra Pradesh and Bandipur National Park in Karnataka, the Ranaganthaswamy Temple, and the Jambukeswar Temple. The famous religious places covered in Kerala are the Guruvayoor temple and Kadampuzha temple, Vallarpadam National shrine of Basilica, St.Antony’s Church, Koratty, and Markaz Knowledge City & Early Sunrise watch at Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu and Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai, among many others.
To date, BPCL has converted 21 highways into electric corridors, and by March 2023, it plans to cover 200 highways with electric vehicle fast chargers to accelerate the growth of EVs in the country.
The fast EV charging corridors were inaugurated by P.S. Ravi, Executive Director Incharge (Retail), in the presence of Pushp Kumar Nayar, Head Retail South, Kannabiran D., State Head (Retail) Kerala, and Subhankar Sen, Chief General Manager (Retail Initiative & Brand), during the launch event in Ernakulam, Kerala.
According to P.S. Ravi, “The fast chargers are easy to use, and they can be self-operated without any manual assistance, though support staff will be available if needed. BPCL has digitized the entire EV charger locator, charger operations, and transaction process through the HelloBPCL app for an online hassle-free and transparent user experience.”
