Maruti Suzuki production slips 1% to 174,978 vehicles in September

Maruti Suzuki India, a prominent player in the Maruti Suzuki production automotive industry, has announced a 1% decrease in its total vehicle production for the month of September. The company produced a total of 174,978 units during this period, down from 177,468 units in September 2022.

This decline in production was particularly noticeable in the entry-level car segment, where models like Alto and S-Presso witnessed a 70% decrease, with production falling to 10,705 units from the previous year’s 35,887 units.

Other popular models from Maruti Suzuki, including Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, and WagonR, also experienced a slight drop in production, totaling 90,849 units in September, compared to 92,717 units during the same month in 2022.

The mid-sized sedan Ciaz saw a decrease in production as well, with numbers dropping from 2,654 units in September 2022 to 2,304 units last month.

Passenger car production, in general, took a hit, decreasing by 21%, resulting in 1,03,858 units produced last month, compared to 1,31,258 units during the same period the previous year.

However, there was a positive note in the utility vehicle segment, which includes popular models like Brezza, Grand Vitara, Ertiga, and Jimny. Production in this category saw an increase, with 56,579 units being produced last month, compared to 29,811 units in September 2022.

The overall passenger vehicle production, despite the declines in specific segments, witnessed a marginal drop to 1,73,451 units in September, down from 1,73,929 units in the same month last year.

In the light commercial vehicle category, Maruti Suzuki’s Super Carry saw a significant production decrease, with only 1,527 units produced in September, compared to 3,539 units in September 2022.
