IHMCL Signs MoU with Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve to Implement FASTag-based Payment System at Forest Entry Points

To ensure smooth and efficient entry for vehicles entering the forest area, the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve located in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. IHMCL, a company incorporated by NHAI for Electronic Tolling, plans to implement a FASTag-based payment system at forest entry points, extending the collection of Ecosystem Management Coordination (EMC) fee via FASTag at various entrance points of the Tiger reserve.

The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways expressed that this initiative is intended to help visitors avoid long queues and delays while enjoying the natural beauty and wildlife of these areas without any hassles. The FASTag system is equipped with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology that enables automatic toll payments at toll plazas. The system mandates affixation of FASTag on all four-wheelers and above vehicles across India.

The ministry believes that this collaboration between IHMCL and the forest department is a vital step towards promoting sustainable tourism and preserving natural resources by reducing vehicular emissions at the forest entry points.
