PVR Limited and INOX Leisure Limited have merged to become the largest and most premium cinema exhibition company in India. Today, the company announced the re-launch of Luxe Cinemas in a new avatar – an 11-screen multiplex in Phoenix Marketcity, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
With this launch, PVR has surpassed 100 screens in Chennai, making it the largest exhibitor in the city with 105 screens in 16 cinemas. The merged entity also boasts a stronghold in Tamil Nadu with 136 screens in 22 properties and a consolidated presence in South India with 519 screens in 93 properties.
Located in Velachery, the multiplex has a seating capacity of 2688 and is home to PVR’s second IMAX screen in Chennai and its 17th in the country, making PVR the largest IMAX partner in India.
Mr. Ajay Bijli, Managing Director of PVR Limited, stated that the Southern region is a critical market for them and thanked audiences in the South who came out to watch movies in theatres after the pandemic. He noted that non-Hindi Indian movies have expanded the movie viewing market with subtitles and dubbing in multiple languages and have provided global recognition.
The cinema boasts state-of-the-art theatrical solutions, including a laser projection system, Dolby Atmos sound, and 3D powered by Volfoni Smart Crystal Diamond solution. The luxurious and opulent design offers a grand atrium and a cozy lounge, providing an elegant and sophisticated experience.
Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, Executive Director of PVR Limited, emphasized that Luxe is also home to IMAX, the most immersive movie experience in the world. He stated that the cinema would also be a destination of choice for food connoisseurs, thanks to a vast menu serving gourmet delicacies.
Chennai serves as the gateway to the culture of South India and is a major film production center, home to the Tamil film industry. With the opening of Luxe Cinemas, PVR has strengthened its growth momentum, opening 159 screens across 28 properties in 22 cities in this fiscal year.
