JSL reduced 1.4 lakh tons CO2 emission in FY22: MD Abhyuday Jindal

JSL aims for carbon neutrality by 2050 and has appointed Kalyan Kumar Bhattacherjee as Chief Sustainability Officer. This position reflects JSL’s commitment to sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint.

Jindal Stainless Ltd ( JSL ), the largest stainless steel maker in the country, announced on Monday that it had implemented various initiatives to decrease its Carbon Emissions by 140,000 tons in the last fiscal year, according to Managing Director Abhyuday Jindal.

Jindal Stainless aims to be carbon neutral by 2050.

According to a statement from the company, JSL has established the position of Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) and has appointed Kalyan Kumar Bhattacherjee to the role. This was announced by Jindal, the Managing Director of JSL.

During the last fiscal year, we were able to reduce our CO2 emissions by 140,000 tons through a variety of initiatives, such as investing in renewable energy and green hydrogen production, as well as introducing electric vehicles at our manufacturing plants,” said Jindal. “We are constantly working to create an ecosystem that aligns with our environmental, social, and governance goals (ESGs).

JSL announced that Bhattacherjee will be responsible for spearheading sustainability initiatives to decrease the company’s carbon emissions in its current and future capacity expansion plans, with the aim of reaching the net-zero target by 2050.

Bhattacherjee stated that JSL, India’s first stainless steel company, has installed a Green Hydrogen Plant to produce stainless steel.

“We are continuously investing in low Carbon technologies, recycling process, digitalization and process upgradation for energy efficiency projects,” he said.

As part of its efforts to reduce carbon emissions, JSL recently entered into an agreement with RenNew Power to develop a utility-scale renewable energy project in Jajpur. The project will utilize a combination of solar and wind power technologies to generate 700 million units of clean energy annually.

Jindal Stainless has partnered with Hygenco India Private Ltd to construct a Green Hydrogen Plant in Hisar, which will significantly reduce CO2 emissions.
