Avaada Energy secures 421 MW solar project from Damodar Valley Corp

Key Point of Solar Cell Production Approval by Firms:

  • The Indian government has granted 39,600 MW of domestic solar photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturing capacity to 11 companies.
  • The grant is under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for high efficiency solar PV modules (Tranche-II).
  • The total investment for the grant is Rs 14,007 crore.
  • 7,400 MW of manufacturing capacity is expected to be operational by October 2024.
  • 16,800 MW will be in operation by April 2025, and the remaining 15,400 MW by April 2026.
  • This tranche is expected to result in an investment of Rs 93,041 crore and create a total of 101,487 jobs.
  • The PLI scheme’s beneficiaries include Indosol, Reliance, First Solar, JSW, and Tata Power Solar.
  • The Centre has granted a total domestic solar PV module manufacturing capacity of 48,337 MW under the PLI scheme, with cumulative support exceeding Rs 18,500 crore when both tranches are considered.

Details of Solar Cell Production Approval by Firms:

The Indian government has granted 39,600 MW of domestic solar photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturing capacity to 11 companies, with a total investment of Rs 14,007 crore, under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for high efficiency solar PV modules (Tranche-II).

According to a statement issued by the Centre, 7,400 MW of manufacturing capacity is set to be operational by October 2024, while 16,800 MW will be in operation by April 2025, and the remaining 15,400 MW by April 2026.

The Centre also stated that this tranche is expected to result in an investment of Rs 93,041 crore and create a total of 101,487 jobs. Among these, 35,010 will receive direct employment, while 66,477 will be indirectly employed. The PLI scheme’s beneficiaries include Indosol, Reliance, First Solar, JSW, and Tata Power Solar.

RK Singh, the Union minister for power and new and renewable energy, praised the PLI Scheme, stating that it would result in approximately 48 GW of domestic module manufacturing capacity within the next three years. This would aid the government’s efforts to reduce the impact of global supply chain shocks and import dependence, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

Tranche-I of the scheme allocated a total integrated capacity of 8,737 MW in November-December 2022. Therefore, when both tranches are considered, the Centre has granted a total domestic solar PV module manufacturing capacity of 48,337 MW under the PLI scheme, with cumulative support exceeding Rs 18,500 crore.
