Bharat Dynamics Launches Three New Products at Aero India 2023
Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) has launched three new cutting-edge defense products at the ongoing Aero India 2023 event in Bengaluru. The Bandhan Ceremony, held on the sidelines of the event, saw the unveiling of the Vertical Launched-Short-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VL SR SAM), the Semi-Active Laser Seeker Homing Anti-Tank Guided Missile for BMP-II, and the Drone Delivered Missile (JISHNU).
The VL-SR SAM, designed and developed by DRDO with BDL as the development and production partner, is a next-generation, ship-based air defense system that can quickly react to supersonic sea skimming targets. The system includes a Missile (Canisterized), Weapon Control System (WCS), Vertical Launcher Unit (VLU), Multi-Function Radar (MFR), Launcher Control System (LCS), Data Link Transceiver (DLX), and Inertial Navigation System (INS) for ship application.
The Semi-Active Laser Seeker Homing Anti-Tank Guided Missile for BMP-II, jointly designed and developed by the Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE) of DRDO and BDL’s in-house R&D division, is a subsonic missile that can cover a range of 4,000 meters in 25 seconds. It is specifically designed to enhance the capability of infantry and mechanized infantry, and can be fired from a tripod or a BMP.
Finally, the Drone Delivered Missile is a light-weight, miniaturized missile designed and developed by BDL’s in-house R&D division for soft-skinned targets. It has a range of 1.5 km with a flight time of 9 seconds, and is expected to significantly enhance the country’s defense capabilities.
The launch of these new products highlights BDL’s continued commitment to research and development, and to providing the Indian armed forces with cutting-edge defense technology to counter emerging threats. The products are expected to significantly enhance the capabilities of the Indian armed forces, and represent a significant step forward in the country’s quest for self-reliance in defense production.
